In the first ten-plus revisions of iOS, the same software ran on both devices, meaning that iPhones reaped the benefits of features designed to make the iPad a desktop-class tablet. In the end, as Jobs stated onstage during one of the most influential moments in the last two decades, the team created iOS based on the existing Mac OS X framework. Steve Jobs proudly declared that the first-ever iPhone ran 'Mac OS X' when he unveiled Apple's revolutionary smartphone at a keynote event in 2007, but in reality, the first iPhones were far more similar to the iPod than any desktop Mac. The company's product teams tasked with designing the intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) for the first iPhone had two methods of development – adapting the iPod's rudimentary software up to the iPhone and adjusting the Mac's polished software down to the iPhone.
